Sheriff Cabral – Women in Leadership and Politics

Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral recently lent her support to two events created with the intent to encourage increased participation by women in politics and roles of leadership.

Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus

Taking part in a panel assembled by the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus and titled, “Building the Pipeline: Women at All Levels of Government”, Sheriff Cabral joined with Massachusetts State Auditor Suzanne Bump and State Representative Shaunna O’Connell to deliver on the day’s message.

Presented as a quarterly breakfast series, Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus panels feature “outstanding elected officials, community leaders, or political activists who have made great advances in promoting the participation of women in the political process.” The breakfast is also utilized as a networking event that brings together the organization’s membership with inspiring speakers to engage in conversation about increasing political participation of women throughout the ranks of government.

Sheriff Cabral Speaks of her Formative Experiences

Addressing the packed house, Sheriff Cabral spoke about her early experiences gained while leading the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and the approach that has carried her to her current role as one of the most prominent women in Massachusetts politics.

“Coming into office, I felt free to go in and change the place,” said Sheriff Cabral. “I brought a different perspective and a new approach to problem solving.”   Sheriff Cabral also went on to speak about some of the opportunities and challenges facing women in the present day political arena and offered encouragement to women seeking to become more civically engaged.

Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce

Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral speaks to members of the Women's Network of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.

Appearing in early December as the keynote speaker for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s “Women’s Network” breakfast series roundtable, Sheriff Cabral again shared with attendees some of the leadership strategies that she employed in successfully reforming the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, elevating it to its present place as a model of the corrections community.

As it was with her empanelment by the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus, Sheriff Cabral was selected by the Women’s Network of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce as an exemplar of the core values of the organization.

The mission of the Women’s Network of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce is to connect women of all career levels, strengthen their professional networks and engage them in the Greater Boston business community. The Women’s Network has achieved this vision through the offering of prominent speaker programs, unique receptions and roundtables, and annual awards ceremonies that foster development, spotlight women leaders, and promote the positive impact women have made on the Greater Boston region.
